Sprouts Awards 120 Grants to Local Nonprofits Focused on Children’s Nutrition Education and Food Access

Last week, the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation announced donations to 120 nonprofit partners across the country, bringing healthy food access and nutrition education to children and families in need. In this video, Chief Executive Officer Jack Sinclair and Executive Director of our Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation Lyndsey Waugh are joined by numerous nonprofit partners, talking about how Sprouts’ support is helping to provide critical nutrition access during the pandemic.

Leadership Video Spotlights Foundation Mission & Local Partners

A total of 85 stores were selected to host nonprofit partner check presentation ceremonies on Wednesday, October 14. The nonprofit organizations gave overviews of the programs Sprouts is supporting before they were awarded their grant check. Thank you, to all team members who attended, for your engagement and enthusiasm during the presentations. You can view our 2020 grant partner imagery gallery here and you can find in-store check presentation photos that took place last week in the slideshow below.

Be Inspired! See Our Incredible Partners in Action!

Across the country, the Sprouts Healthy Community Foundation’s nonprofit partners are providing children with invaluable lessons on growing and preparing fresh, healthy food. Below are videos that highlight some of our partners’ amazing work.

Jones Valley Teaching Farm (Birmingham, AL)
$100k donation from Foundation

Jones Valley Teaching Farm (JVTF) creates opportunities for academic exploration, personal growth, and pathways to leadership through its K-12 farming and culinary arts program. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, they work closely with Birmingham City Schools to operate Teaching Farms where young people learn to grow a healthy future for themselves and their community. Sprouts’ funding will support the creation and distribution of virtual STEM lessons and home gardening kits to keep students meaningfully engaged while learning remotely. Additionally, Sprouts’ support will help sustain JVTF’s seven school farms, resulting in an estimated 15,000 pounds of fresh produce and 5,000 seedlings grown for distribution to local residents.

Spaces of Opportunity (South Phoenix, AZ)
$50k donation (total $250k) from Foundation

Sprouts began its partnership with Spaces in 2015, as the first corporate funder to step forward and invest in the 18-acre community garden in South Phoenix. At that time, the project was in its infancy; Sprouts investment of $150k helped fund the build out of the community garden’s organizational infrastructure and on-site farmers market. In 2020, Sprouts awarded an additional $50k that will fund the fall/spring farmers market and support for local farmers, continuing to strengthen Spaces’ role as a thriving hub of local food, community, and culture.

Green Our Planet (Las Vegas, NV)
$10k donation from Foundation (second year as a grant recipient)

Through a 2019 Neighborhood Grant, Green Our Planet created the Sprouts Garden Nutrition Curriculum for children. This spring, the organization produced 15-minute mini-lessons using the Sprouts Nutrition Curriculum, and they began posting the lessons online. Through their 2020 Neighborhood Grant, Green Our Planet will distribute the video lessons to more than 10,000 parents, teachers and administrators through their newsletter list and to an additional 1,000 teachers across Nevada who work with Green Our Planet through their school gardening programs.

SproutsCon 2020 Video Awards & Message from Leadership

At SproutsCon, we bring many of our team members together, along with our vendor partners, to hear from our leaders, learn about innovative products that will continue to differentiate Sprouts as we grow, share stories and best practices with one another, and highlight outstanding team members.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we made the difficult decision to cancel SproutsCon 2020 and although we weren’t able to gather in person this year, we want to take some time to share in the memories of past events and recognize top performers in our stores. This year may be different, but it’s always important to celebrate team members like you and make sure you still get to experience some of what we do at our annual conference!

Please watch the video below for a message from leadership, hear from some of our valued vendors, see a recap of past events, and finally, we’ll recognize our 2020 Store Managers and Department Managers of the Year.

Congratulations to each of the Store Manager and Department Manager of the Year recipients! Winners will receive plaques and jackets that are being sent to their store. See below for the full list of winners.

Don’t forget to check out the Sprouts app! As noted in the video, some of the featured vendors are offering team member exclusive coupons in the Sprouts app so you can try out their products.

Thank you to each of our team members for all your hard work this year!
