Many people suffer with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Today, June 27, is recognized as National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day – a time to help educate people about the disorder and help those suffering find the help they need.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), people often associate PTSD with veterans and active duty service members, but it’s a mental health issue that can affect anyone, at any age, who has experienced a traumatic event, such as an accident, assault, natural disaster, or even the death of a loved one. These experiences can have lasting effect on your mental health. PTSD symptoms can occur within three months after a traumatic event, or even years later. The important thing is to reach out for help.
