Did you know that 32 billion pounds of produce go to waste yearly? April 10 – 16, 2023, is National Food Waste Prevention Week – a great time to learn more about how you can reduce food waste and how food waste impacts our environment.
There are things YOU can do to prevent food waste, which not only helps your budget but helps our environment, too. Consider the following tips to help:
- Buy ugly food. It’s what’s inside that counts, right? Did you know many stores, including Sprouts, are using imperfect produce as an excellent opportunity to keep food out of landfills? Be sure to check out how Sprouts is working with partners on its Rescued Organics program!
- Take stock of your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer before grocery shopping.
- Make a plan. A meal plan that is. A meal plan helps keep your meals healthy and can prevent you from buying too much food that can ultimately go to waste.
- Use what’s left over. Leftovers make great meals the second (or third) time around. Whether you eat them as-is or incorporate them into new meals, it’s an excellent way to avoid tossing food.
