This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month is “Beyond the Table”, capturing the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals and sponsor of this month-long campaign, shared the following helpful eating tips for this month and year-round:
Stay nourished on any budget
– Learn cooking, food preparation and meal planning skills
– Use a grocery list and shop sales (See some Sprouts recipes for healthy functional snacks)
Eat a variety of foods from all food groups
– Experiment with recipes using different ingredients
– Eat foods in various forms – fresh, frozen, canned, or dried!
Eat with the environment in mind
– Buy foods in season and from local farmers (Read about the benefits of choosing Organic)
– Grow food at home or in a community garden
