Honoring Juneteenth

5 things to know about Juneteenth

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It marks the day in 1895 when Union General Gordon Granger proclaimed freedom from slavery in Texas, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebrates African American heritage, resilience, and achievements, fostering reflection on the ongoing journey toward equality and justice.
