Staying Healthy: Tips and Reminders

This communication was sent to all Store Managers on January 30, 2020.

We want all of our team members to stay healthy this flu season, and the best way to combat the flu and other viruses is through prevention. With the new information about the coronavirus, it’s important all team members are aware of the following details:

What is Coronavirus: A new respiratory illness temporarily named “2019-nCoV” that has been acknowledged in Wuhan, China. Thousands of cases have been confirmed by Chinese authorities with cases now established in the United States (AZ, CA, IL, and WA).

Symptoms: Symptoms can be compared to the common cold like a runny nose, cough, headache, sore throat, general fatigue, and fever.

How it spreads: The most common forms of transmission of coronavirus  are from infected individual to others through the air from coughing and sneezing, close personal contact, touching or shaking hands, and touching surfaces with the virus on it prior to hand washing.

Prevention: There is currently no vaccine to stop the 2019-nCoV infection. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventative actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. CDC also offers specific guidance for travelers.

CDC Recommends:
While the immediate risk of this new virus to the American public is believed to be low at this time, everyone can do their part to help us respond to this emerging public health threat.

It’s currently flu and respiratory disease season and CDC recommends getting vaccinated, taking everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs, and taking flu antivirals if prescribed.

BPS Recommends:
If you have a fever – STAY HOME.
If you develop a fever at work – GO HOME.

Each store will be provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for team members on an as needed basis. The PPE must be kept in the Store Manager’s office. Feel free to wear PPE while working. Keep in mind the information listed above and share with your team, and please do not come to work sick.
