Retailer of the Year! Both Store Brands and Progressive Grocer named Sprouts Retailer of the Year! Additionally, Store Brands named our very own Andrea Hatziyannis as an honoree of women in the private label industry who have had and continue to have a major impact in the store brand segment. Congrats, Andrea!

Seasonal Caramel Apple Board We showcased a seasonal DIY Caramel Apple Board. District Director, Rickey Edwards was featured on Good Day Washington and Store Manager, Dan O’Bryan was featured on Philadelphia 17 showcasing the board. Additionally, KGET-TV demonstrated to their viewers while promoting the Bakersfield-Panama Lane store.

Real Root Launch Sprouts launched its new body care line and Seeking Alpha, Supermarket News, Trend Hunter, Yahoo! Finance, Progressive Grocer, Stock Titan, Perishable News, and People Espanol.

Expanded Partnership with IFCO Sprouts expanded their partnership with IFCO. Store Brands, And Now U Know, Grocery Dive, The Produce News, and Perishable News covered the story.

In Other Sprouts News: Supermarket News covered Sprouts’ differentiation. Progressive Grocer announced several November and December store openings. Progressive Grocer also ranked Sprouts high when it came to progress in incorporating higher-welfare products. 2021 Expansion: Eat This, Not That! included Sprouts in a roundup of grocery stores that opened new locations during the year, noting stores feature new displays and department enhancements that showcase new-to-market and plant-based foods.

 

 

Fresh in Florida: South Florida Sun Sentinel shared details of the opening of store #639 – Dania Beach, FL. –highlighting new format features through interviews with Chief Format Officer Dave McGlinchey. Miami Herald briefed the new store in addition to other locations planned for the region which will make more than 30 stores in the state by January, while ClickOrlando.com shared opening details of store #642 – Orlando – Colonial Plaza.


Organic Goodness: Parade.com featured Sprouts on its list of 10 grocery stores that sell the most organic produce, adding “Sprouts Farmers Market, located in 23 states, is a health foods store in which organic food encompasses 30,000 square feet of space. From avocados to grapefruit to pineapple, they’ve got it all.”

 

Fortune Debut: Yahoo! Finance included Sprouts on its list of companies that are new to the Fortune 500 in 2021, noting with more than 340 stores nationwide and over 33,000 team members, Sprouts made its debut on the list at #437.

Growing in Georgia: Atlanta & Company and Patch.com shared opening details of store #530 – Smyrna, GA. – highlighting features of the new format store including the Innovation Center, expanded Frozen Department and plant-based proteins.

 

Coming to Dallas: Culture Map Dallas shared Sprouts is expanding its local footprint with store #158 – Las Colinas and #159 – Grand Prairie coming soon, among other sites planned that will join 20 existing stores in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Celebrating Orlando: Sprouts hosted a grand opening celebration at the Orlando Distribution Center that included remarks from Sprouts leadership, displays from local produce vendors and Foundation partner Fleet Farming, and tours with media and store managers.

 

The Best Board: Real Simple shared tips for creating the best charcuterie board, including pro advice on selecting the best meats and cheeses from Sprouts Culinary Director Matt Pratta.

 

 

Angel City Suits Up with Sprouts: CBS Sports and Los Angeles Times wrote Los Angeles Angel City Football Club revealed their home kits for the inaugural 2022 season which feature Sprouts as a back-of-kit sponsor. Through the partnership, ACFC and Sprouts will rebuild eight Los Angeles school gardens with Garden School Foundation and distribute more than 10,000 pounds of fresh produce to the community with Food Forward.

 

Top Holiday Eats: Veg Out Mag included the Sprouts Farmers Market Cornbread Stuffing and Tattooed Chef Riced Cauliflower Stuffing available at Sprouts among its list of top vegan options for the season. Yahoo News shared Sprouts’ Pecan Pie ranked #2 among its taste test of eight grocery store options, mentioning “the filling was a deep caramel color, with flavors of molasses and dark corn syrup.”

Top Grocery Brand: Eat This, Not That! published a roundup of the top grocery store brands, ranking Sprouts at #7 out of 25 for its range of specialty organic items to pantry essentials, noting must-have items including frozen blueberries, blue corn tortilla chips, and vegetable broth.

Healthy Thanksgiving: Mashed.com included Sprouts in its roundup of the best places to buy a pre-cooked Thanksgiving dinner, noting Sprouts specializes in natural and organic foods making the meals a good fit for health-conscious shoppers. USAToday, Popsugar, The List and My Recipes shared Sprouts’ Thanksgiving Day hours on their retail roundups of the holiday.

Sharing Natural Remedies: The Packer and Progressive Grocer shared Sprouts hosted a livestream hosted by Maria Menounos with wellness experts Dr. Josh Axe, Jordan Rubin, Naomi Whittel and Candice Kumai offering remedies to address stress, inflammation and immunity. Expanding Healthy Food Access: Progressive Grocer a nd AndNowUKnow shared the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation is providing $3 million in grants to 115 nonprofit organizations to bolster local food systems, and improve school garden learning and nutrition education.

 

 

Awarding a Good Cause: PRNews awarded the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation’s “Growing School Gardens” campaign an honorable mention in its annual Platinum Awards which honor some of the most influential, inspirational and innovative changemakers in the industry.

Championing Change with Food: FoodTank recapped its panel on strengthening local food systems which included Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation Executive Director Lyndsey Waugh who emphasized when children experience school gardens and see how food grows, “they’re going to be committed to making those choices that are better for the planet and better for people.”

New Format with Jack: AFMA published an interview with Sprouts Chief Executive Officer Jack Sinclair in its recent issue, detailing the new format store features and images from store #9 – Phoenix, AZ.

New in Town: Progressive Grocer shared photos from the grand opening of store #636 – Tampa, Fla., which is the 25th Sprouts in the Sunshine State, while Patch.com published grand opening details and photos of store #443 – Menifee, Calif.

Helping Los Angeles: The Kelly Clarkson Show profiled nonprofit Every Day Action, which gathers leftover catering from film and television sets around Los Angeles and redistributes the food to locals facing hunger. Kelly revealed the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation donated $10,000 to the organization which will help to further reduce Hollywood’s food waste and support those in need.

One-Stop Pumpkin Shop: People.com told readers to “Head over to the nearest Sprouts Farmers Market for all the spiced foods that fall fans need,” in its roundup of pumpkin-flavored food and drinks available this fall, which highlighted Sprouts Pumpkin Spice Kombucha and Pumpkin Spice Brioche, among other items.

Supporting our Neighbors: BRProud.com shared the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation partnered with Three O’Clock Project to aid in their Hurricane Ida efforts in Baton Rouge, La. Team members from store #691 – Baton Rouge helped pack the donation of 15 pallets of fresh fruit, veggies and child-friendly snacks to support the local organization which is feeding 2,000 children each week as the need remains while neighborhoods await power and rebuild.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner: Eat This, Not That published a taste test of six grocery store rotisserie chickens, with Sprouts’ Herb Seasoned Roasted Chicken ranking number 1 among the group that “emerged triumphant as the clear winner from the first bite.” The author added “This was a quality chicken through and through, with obvious care taken to its recipe development, spice blend, and preparation. If I could eat only one rotisserie chicken ever again, this would hands down be it.”

Top Ranking Retailer: Entrepreneur shared a roundup of the 10 biggest food and drug stores based on revenue, listing Sprouts at number 6 with the note that “its shares are up more than 14% year-to-date but are down over 20% in the last three months.” Eat This, Not That published a ranking of store brand products from 20 grocers, including Sprouts Brand at number 7 with the note “Some of our must-have items from Sprouts Brand are frozen blueberries, blue corn tortilla chips, and vegetable broth.”

Fresh in Maricopa: InMaricopa reported from the grand opening of store #45 – Maricopa, Ariz. where more than 100 shoppers were lined up when doors opened. The article shared customer reactions to the store, including “Their produce selection is far better than the other grocery stores in town.”


Open in Brandon: Tampa Bay Morning Blend broadcasted a segment with Registered Dietitian Abigail Dougherty who shared opening details of store #635 – Brandon, Fla. along with seasonal produce recipe ideas using Florida-grown items.

Now Hiring Nationwide: KTVK-3TV in Phoenix shared Sprouts stores hosted a two-day hiring event with walk-in interviews to fill numerous positions across the store.

Sprouts’ New CFO: The Wall Street Journal shared Lawrence “Chip” Molloy will join as Sprouts’ new CFO, with an analyst adding his experience will help the company with financial efficiencies using data analytics to target customers.

Fresh Produce Supporting Community Farms: Aurora TV broadcasted a segment sharing Sprouts’ new Distribution Center has opened in Aurora, CO and is bringing fresh produce to shoppers in the state while supporting the work of local DeLaney Farms, which brings fresh produce to the community and creates jobs for refugee and immigrant farmers, through the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation. The clip features interviews with Scott Neal , Chief Fresh Merchandising Officer, local produce vendors, and Foundation partners from the recent open house event at the DC.


Now in Maricopa: InMaricopa reported on the grand opening of store #45 – Maricopa, AZ including customer reactions to the new store and a Facebook Live of opening morning. KSAZ-FOX10 also broadcasted details of the grand opening during its morning show.


Our Brands on Screen: Netflix surprised fans with new episodes of Grace and Frankie last week and Sprouts Brand Corn Flakes played a big role in the premiere episode’s plot. Grace and Frankie live in San Diego, so it’s no surprise they’re big Sprouts fans!

New Format Debut: The Orange County Register reported Sprouts debuted its new, smaller format at the remodeled store #256 – Tustin, CA, which features a revamped Frozen Department and new Innovation Center among updated décor and signage. The coverage, which includes a Q&A with David McGlinchey, Chief Format Officer, was picked up by The Mercury News along with numerous outlets throughout California, and national outlets, including Eat This, Not That!, Yahoo Lifestyle and Mashed.

Fresh in The Centennial State: Denver Business Journal profiled how the pandemic changed grocery shopping in Colorado, noting Sprouts opened a 135,000-square-foot distribution center in Aurora this spring at which it gathers and sends out produce to 45 stores to better serve its customers who are focused on their health.

Summer Snacks and Sweepstakes: Tampa Bay’s Morning Blend broadcasted a segment with Sprouts Registered Dietitian Partner Abigail Dougherty sharing summer road trip snack ideas and details on the Sprouts Sweepstakes for a VIP trip to the iHeartRadio Music Festival open to Tampa shoppers.

New Sourcing Standards: Store Brands reported Sprouts has updated its Animal Welfare policy to provide meaningful and measurable sourcing standards for the chickens raised for consumption in our fresh chicken, one-pan meals, full-service case and roasted deli offerings.

Bringing Hatch Back: The Shelby Report shared Sprouts stores have rolled out a seasonal lineup of Our Brand Hatch Chile products along with fresh varieties. Coverage includes a quote from Jac Ross, VP of Our Brands.

Expanding Nationwide: AZCentral.com shared opening details of relocated store #9 – Phoenix, AZ, which features décor and department updates, including an Innovation Center and expanded Frozen Department. Gwinnett Daily Post reported store #524 – Buford, GA will open August 4 at The Exchange at Gwinnett. 

Encouraging Healthy Habits with MyFitnessPal: Supermarket News and Progressive Grocer reported Sprouts has teamed up with MyFitnessPal as the platform’s first retail partner to support the health and fitness app’s users with healthy recipes, articles, challenges and more. This year’s Squash Your Goals Challenge engaged 121,000 users who logged more than 5.2 million healthy meals inspired by Sprouts in the app.

New in Store: Market Screener, AndNowUKnow, Store Brands and The Shelby Report shared Sprouts stores nationwide introduced 10 new and exclusive products in July with a focus on convenience and functionality to make mealtime easy for families on the go.

Fresher in Florida: The Orlando Sentinel reported on the opening of Sprouts’ new produce Distribution Center in Orlando that is serving all Sprouts stores across the Sunshine State. Chief Format Officer David McGlinchey shared details of Sprouts’ growth plans for Florida, including 10 new stores opening this year, and SVP of Supply Chain Joe Hurley detailed the features of the DC, including ripening rooms that allow for “better fruit, ripened for Sprouts by Sprouts.” South Florida Sun Sentinel and The Orlando Business Journal also shared what the DC means for Sprouts’ growth in Florida.

Fortune 500 Debut: Fortune ranked Sprouts #437 on its annual list of largest U.S. corporations by total revenue with an article of the year’s notable rankings adding a well-timed e-commerce expansion and last year’s grocery boom vaulted Sprouts to the list for the first time during our best year yet. In an interview with Phoenix Business Journal, CEO Jack Sinclair shared the award is a testament to the work of Sprouts’ team members.


Good Food, Good Music:
Vegas News reported the lineup for the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Festival, which is sponsored by Sprouts Farmers Market, includes Billie Eilish, Cheap Trick, Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Florida Georgia Line, among others, who will perform in Las Vegas this September.

 

Dietitian-Approved Picks: EatingWell published a list of the 8 Best Healthy Foods at Sprouts According to a Dietitian, including Organic Rolled Oats that reduce the risk of heart disease and help manage diabetes, Collagen Water to support healthy hair, skin and nails, and Veggie and Cheese Omelet Bites which deliver protein and fiber for an energizing breakfast that supports the digestive system.

New Products and Free Pickup: News3LV, WRAL.com, Dallas Culture Map and Phoenix Patch shared Sprouts has rolled out 11 unique products for June, including eight exclusive to Sprouts as part of the month’s Find a New Favorite lineup. The articles added shoppers can enjoy free grocery pickup this summer by using the special promo code at shop.sprouts.com, while ABC4.com, Consumer Queen and Southern Savers also shared the free pickup deal.

 

Expanding Diversity: The Shelby Report wrote KeHE Distributors has partnered with Sprouts and RangeMe for a special entry opportunity for brands that are mission-based, minority, women, veteran, LGBTQ or disability-owned. The campaign enables Sprouts, known for incubating startup natural brands, to discover new-to-market products from diverse brands while creating a unique opportunity for vendors to gain immediate access to shelves at one of the largest natural retailers in the nation.
